You can start with a blog and start writing articles in the niche market of the product that you plan on promoting.
You can set up free blogs at sites like http://www.blogspot.com or http://www.wordpress.com
However the disadvantage of a free blog is, your blog can be suspended for whatever reason the site decided to. Imagine if you have done plenty of work on it, get good readership and ranking and then all of a suddden, you have it all wiped out. That’s a lot of work wasted.
It’s still better to host your own, you own it and can do whatever you want. But the choice is yours.
Buying a domain name and hosting it is not as expensive as what you think.
If you are serious about going into this, you may want to consider investing a little money into this business of yours.

hosting is about $10 a month at http://www.hostgator.comhttp://www.clickbank.com is one that you can start with products that you don’t need your own website to promote. It’s all digital product and opening an account there is free, thus you have zero overhead there.

Hey,
There are many programs and website you can start being an affiliate without the website. If you want to sell digital product you can simply go to clickbank.com they are paying high commissions up to 75% per sale.
For a real product you can go to Commission Junction but for that you will need a website, so just build a blog which will be connected with a product you are going to sell. Building a blog is easy and fun, you do not need any extra skills for that.

Glad to see you are interested in making money online. With that being said, I think you are going about it wrong. There are proven ways to make money, 99/100 of them involve owning a website. You can obviously make money by direct linking on social media sites and video sites and even adwords or yahoo search marketing but to really build a valuable internet property and gain a steady income from the web get a website.

There are many program and memberships online that will teach anyone about how to set up an affiliate marketing campaign.
One thing that’s very important is to make sure you collect emails before sending the person to an affiliate site.
The reason for that is so you can work on building your business just like you’re helping the owner or the affiliate program.
You need to pick a program that you feel good about. Good enough that you can write articles about.
You can use web2.0 sites like squidoo, hubgages to write your articles.
Make sure your articles are benefit laced not features. People buy benefits which appeal to the emotions.
Then, just work on driving traffic to the pages and collect names.
So, with that said, you’re going to need an autoresponder and you’re ready to start after you’ve picked your affiliate program.
Oh, take your time and just work on 1 at time. Make that one profitable before going to another.
*one mistake people make is not focusing.
Oh, study copy writing. Search yahoo or google for copywriters to learn how to write compelling articles.
Test everything and track everything. Marketing is math not guess work.
